Voltalab Sound Studios is packed with incredible equipment for making music. Find us in the iconic Cargo building in Rochdale, within easy reach by car and public transport from Manchester and Leeds. Fans of the Manchester music scene will need no introduction to this impressive recording space. Before Cargo closed its doors in 1985, John Peel was famously known to play any song recorded at Cargo on his radio show. Loaded with musical heritage, the building re-opened in 2013, re-built from the inside out by engineer and producer Jamie Alsop.
Stripping the space back and rebuilding to an impeccable spec, the studio has been reimagined with a flawless attention to detail. Think a choice selection of vintage equipment from Altec to Vortexion, sat alongside the control room’s focal point - a custom made Neve Mini-V console, built by CML Audio. The studio runs on the latest Avid Pro Tools HD software combined with an SSL audio interface and an extensive selection of plug-ins. Add floating floors and acoustic panels that rotate to change the sound of the room, and it’s easy to see why Voltalab is the ideal place for your recording or mixing project.
The studio’s acoustics and sound treatment complement B&W, PMC and Yamaha monitoring and their surround sound capabilities. Our artists benefit from the highest sound quality and impeccable accuracy.

Detailed, innovative and client-led, we help you produce the best sounds in a comfortable, friendly and welcoming environment.
