Made In Rochdale is a free to access music development programme created to support five independent artists and five aspiring sound engineers across Rochdale Borough.
We are offering these exciting opportunities designed to help participants develop their creative practice, gain industry experience, and build confidence in professional music environments.
Artist Development Programme
A tailored development opportunity for original music artists looking to take the next step in their career.

One fully produced single recorded at Voltalab Sound Studios
Mentoring from industry professionals
Support to develop your Electronic Press Kit (EPK)
Music video recorded at Voltalab Sound Studios
Live showcase performance at a Rochdale venue

Who it’s for:
This programme is open to applicants who are from or currently living in the Borough of Rochdale. Applications are welcome from solo artists, duos, bands, ensembles. Artists from any musical genre are encouraged to apply. Applicants must perform original music and not cover versions. Artists can be at any stage of their career, provided they are not currently signed to a record label. No age limit!
Introduction to Sound
A practical introduction to studio recording and live sound, designed for anyone interested in developing technical audio skills.
What you’ll get:
Hands-on sessions in a professional recording studio
Practical recording experience
One to one mentoring from an industry professional
Opportunity to shadow a sound engineer
Networking opportunities
Sessions will cover drums, guitars, piano, vocals, DAWs, outboard and live sound. You’ll actively participate, build confidence, and strengthen your pathway into professional studio and live sound work.
Who it’s for:
This programme is open to applicants who are from or currently living in the Borough of Rochdale, with sound engineering experience, and can commit to attending all sessions. No age limit.
Applications are particularly encouraged from marginalised backgrounds, including people who identify as from the Global Majority, Neurodiverse, Gender Diverse, LGBTQ+, or from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Both programmes are fully funded and free for all successful applicants.
Please note that the majority of sessions will be taking place at Voltalab Sound Studios. Unfortunately, there is currently no step-free access to the studio.
You are welcome to apply for both programmes. However, applicants will only be selected for one programme, so please consider which opportunity best suits your interests and goals.
